I didn't wait until 2020

Folks,
Here is some draft text that I put together for the 'I didn't wait' campaign. I'm not particularly attached to either version - this is more to frame the discussion of what we want to include (rather than choose between option 1 and option 2). Please add your comments...

Option 1:
"I didn't wait until 2020!

The government of Alberta has decided that it has the luxury of waiting until 2020 before actually reducing greenhouse gas emissions. I, however, have grasped the urgency of dangerous climate change and the importance of reducing greenhouse gas emisisons now. In fact, I have already taken initiative in the following ways to reduce the emissions under my responsibility:
- I reduced the distance I drive to only 9,000 km/yr and walk, ride my bike and take transit whenever possible
- I committed to buying groceries that are grown locally and organically
- I chose to live in a smaller dwelling with low heating demands
- I invest in mutual funds that support companies that reduce their carbon footprint

The Alberta government appears to want to play the role of follower by waiting over a decade before assuming its responsibility. By taking action already, I am being a leader. I didn't wait until 2020. How about you?"

Option 2:
"I didn't wait until 2020!

Premier Stelmach, I understand that your government has decided to procrastinate on reducing greenhouse gas emissions until 2020. Unlike you, I refused to put off this critical civic duty and I took the following actions to reduce my carbon footprint:
- I reduced the distance I drive to only 9,000 km/yr and walk, ride my bike and take transit whenever possible
- I committed to buying groceries that are grown locally and organically
- I chose to live in a smaller dwelling with low heating demands
- I invest in mutual funds that support companies that reduce their carbon footprint

I encourage you to rethink this abdication of responsibility and commit to reducing greenhouse gas emissions sooner and deeper. I didn't wait until 2020, why would you?"

I'm really glad you posted this because I need to get motivated to write the inside copy for the brochure.

I'm partial to Option #1 myself.

Should we put something in there indicating that we don't agree with the government's assessment that reducing GHG's now will screw the economy? Otherwise it seems like they could write us back with an easy argument.

Good point. Strangely, this government does still think it's one or the other...
